Cashmere Care Guide
Cashmere is a super soft and premium fibre, known for its warmth and luxurious feel. To preserve its qualities, it's important to care for it the right way.
How to care for your cashmere
How to wash
• Lay your cashmere piece flat on a clean surface and gently remove any bobbles with a cashmere comb or pilling device.
• Hand wash only. Use cool or lukewarm water, at no more than 30°C and a specialist wool or cashmere detergent. Avoid biological detergents, as they contain enzymes that can break down the protein fibres.
• Turn the garment inside out and submerge for no longer than 10 minutes. Gently agitate, but do not rub, stretch or wring.
• Rinse thoroughly in cool water until it runs clear.
How to dry
• Gently press, but do not wring or twist to remove excess water.
• Lay flat on a clean, dry towel. Roll up, then lay flat to air dry in its natural shape, away from direct heat or sunlight.
• Avoid hanging cashmere, as this can distort the fibres and misshape the garment.
How to store
• Store folded in acid-free tissue or in a breathable fabric bag to prevent stretching and protect from dust.
• Keep in a cool, dry place. To deter moths, use cedar balls or lavender sachets, but avoid direct contact with the garment.
• Avoid plastic storage bags, which can trap moisture and lead to mildew.
What is pilling
Pilling is a natural occurrence caused by friction when wearing cashmere — particularly in high-use areas like under the arms or sides. It results in small balls of fibre on the surface. These can easily be removed using a pilling comb or fabric shaver and will lessen over time after a few hand washes.
Extra care for brushed cashmere
Brushing out the fibres of a brushed cashmere knit gives it a beautifully tactile feel, with an almost soft-focus appearance – but this does make the garment a little more delicate and prone to pilling or felting.
We recommend following our cashmere care advice, with one extra step to keep your brushed cashmere looking its best. Do not use a cashmere comb or pilling device. Instead, once the washed knit is dry, gently brush the fibres by hand to maintain that luxe effect.
